Dr. Mic will work to invest more in our Boys and Girls Clubs in Washington, DC.
Dr. Mic will work to bring back Summer Jobs for Youth, a program that was initiated by the late great Mayor Marion S. Barry.
In order for our student leaders to become effective leaders in government, their education must be interwoven with experience with government operations. Dr. Mic will work to establish more paid summer internships with DC government.
Dr. Mic believes in our youth having a voice , and believes that the voices of our youth should be heard. He is committed to establishing a DC- based Teen Summit annually, where our teens can come together to discuss issues that affect them, and offer suggestions to Council on potential resolutions to their concerns.
Dr. Mic will advocate for and propose legislation that works to correct the culture of anti-bullying that exists in our school system and in our city, Cyber-bullying is on the rise, and has taken its place in causing many suicides . Dr. Mic would include in proposed legislation items such as immediate investigations after initial complaint, immediate reporting of bullying incidents to all parents at the school, immediate reporting by the school to the Council's Committee on Education, and the establishment of a confidential hotline that students can call to report bullying practices directed toward themselves or a fellow classmate. In addition, Dr. Mic will advocate for the shutdown of social media websites that do not post anti-bullying statements; do not immediately shut down user accounts where there is suspicious or suggestive activity; do not police their site to ensure no bullying is taking place; and do not report observed bullying tactics to law enforcement.
No person should have to worry about being sold into "sex slavery." This is especially true of our young adults, who are often the most targeted groups and the most vulnerable. Dr. Mic will advocate for and propose legislation that ends human trafficking, including stiff penalties for those who participate in and orchestrate the practice of selling victims into Human Trafficking (felony charges); and mandatory registry in a Sex Offender database.
